Think Before You Throw School Status Award

Further to the introduction of our 'Think Before You Throw' environmental programme of study, we would like to inform you of our new environmental status scheme.
This scheme rewards environmental conscious Sandwell schools with 'Think Before You Throw' school status.

In order to meet our objectives, your school must be able to demonstrate the following criteria.

For Litter Status (Bronze Level)
Raise pupils awareness about litter
Conduct regular litter picks either within school grounds and/or the local community
Produce and display anti litter posters in all classrooms/corridors
Set up a litter hit squad or litter committee to promote a clean & tidy school.

For Recycling Status (Silver Level)
Raise pupils awareness about recycling
Set up three recycling schemes in your school
Produce and display an school eco code/school eco board
Produce and display recycling posters within school
Set up an eco committee/school council to promote sustainable activities

For Waste Management Status (Gold Level)
Raise pupils awareness about sustainability
Develop a waste policy and/or conduct regular waste audits and produce your findings.
Produce and display energy and water efficiency posters/stickers
Develop a school garden and/or compost area to support sustainable living
Highlight your environmental work to visitors/parents of your school, either via school newsletters and/or develop an eco section on your school website.

Complete an evidence folder for each level, this can include action plan for each level, minutes from school meetings and photographical evidence of your work.

A copy of which needs to be sent into Tipton Litterwatch for review. If successful, you will become a 'Think Before You Throw' school for Sandwell and received a commemorative plaque; for inside and outside your school, status certificate, school banner and logo.

This scheme can either become a short term or long term project for your school. To enter please send your completed action plan and/or evidence folder via email or post to Tipton Litter Watch if you would like the judging process for this award to take place at your school, please call Lindsay Richmond on 0121 557 6001 to set up a convenient date and time; making sure all evidence for this award is ready available on your chosen day.

The status award has been recognised by Ofsted and supports Healthy Schools, Eco-Schools and Sustainable Schools Awards.
