Think Before You Throw’ is an active and engaging programme of environmental study for young people (aged 5-16 years) comprising of lesson plans, pupil worksheets, in-school and extended school activities, eco workshops, environmental competitions, litter picking sessions and an online learning website. All resources link to the National Curriculm, QCA schemes of work and the Every Child Matter Agenda. Furthermore, the programme is designed to engage entire schools – their pupils and teachers alike – in developing awareness and respect for the environment locally and the importance of sustainable living both at school and at home.
To support the programme, Tipton Litter Watch developed a school status scheme and three annual awards for teachers, pupils and parents which recognise achievements both in the classroom and the wider community.
Under the key topic areas of litter, recycling and waste management ‘Think Before You Throw’ presents a ready made programme of environmental study for both teachers and pupils comprising of lesson plans, pupil worksheets, in school activities, class workshops, environmental competitions, a status scheme and an online learning website. Our programme offers not only encouragement but engages the whole school in developing awareness and respect for their environment; whilst teaching the importance of sustainable living.
"I was extremely pleased and interested to read of the work you do, that introduces young people to the issues around sustainable development. As you are well aware, everything we do has an effect on something or someone. Through your work with children and schools, you have found, as I have, just how heartening it is to see their willingness to become involved in making the world a better place. May I congratulate you on your programme, awards and your continuing work to make your local community a better place to live." Minister for Children, Young People & Families
